Template > Response Spectrum AASHTO LRFD 2007

Generation of the elastic seismic response spectrum according to AASHTO LRFD 2007, 3.10

SettingDescription
Acceleration coeff. (%) Acceleration coefficient in percent according to Article 3.10.2
A (-)

Numerical value of the acceleration coefficient (dimensionless)

A describes the relation between the ground acceleration and the gravity acceleration (A = ag/g).

Acceleration coeff. (%) and A (-) are recalculated from one another.

Soil profile type

Soil profile type according to Article 3.10.5.2 through 3.10.5.5 (I to IV, User-defined)

  • User-defined allows for defining any user-specific values for the Site coefficient S
Site coefficient S (-) Evaluated from the selection of Soil profile type in reference to the Table 3.10.5.1-1 (dimensionless)
Consider Equation 3.6.10.2-1

If checked the response spectrum will be modified according to Equation 3.6.10.2-1.

Applicable for Soil profile type III and IV andAcceleration coeff. (%) ≥ 30

Output variable

Name of the variable that describes the response spectrum

The default name will be set up as LRFD07_Csm. A two-digit alpha-numeric suffix (Variable postfix) can be added to that name (e.g. in case that more than one response spectrum is generated to not overwrite the existing ones).

The variable (and the related variables, formulas and tables) is stored in Properties > Variables and can be used when defining the earthquake load (Schedule > Load Definition > Earthquake Load).

The variable describing the response spectrum will be given in terms of Csm/A (-) as a function of the period Tm (s).

Therefore the respective design ground accelerations must be considered when defining the vectors within the earthquake load definition; i.e.:

Csm (A) / A [-] -> Earthquake load: Csm (A) / A * ag = Csm (ag) [m/s2]
